Day 31: THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED

  • Very early in my Christian walk, I was encouraged to read through the Bible regularly.  One of the tools that has helped me to keep this commitment is a little packet of reading guides written by radio Bible teacher, Woodrow Kroll.  The original guides have been updated into a packet of seven guides and can be obtained through the online bookstore at www.backtothebible.org  for $4 plus postage.  In the online store search window, type in the number 42024. (You can also call 1-800-759-6655, ask to be connected to the store, and then give the product number to the online clerk.)
  • Reading through the Bible on a regular basis is made easier when I am able to listen as I read.  Three sites that have audio Biblese that I have used are www.biblegateway.com, www.crosswalk.com, www.blueletterbible.org.  Once I find the chapter that I need, I click on the speaker icon to hear the chapter read.  I can also select different versions of the same chapter, which is helpful in increasing my understanding and interest.  Be aware that not all versions have an audio counterpart.
  • In Hebrews 4:12, Scripture is described as being “powerful and active.”  My life testifies to the power of Scripture.  The Bible gives me truth and truth frees me to live my life helpfully and confidently.  In the pages of scripture I find clear direction and insight for living.
  • The message of salvation is the most beautiful message in the world. God commands that I take this message out into the world (Matthew 28:19-20).  Sharing with others is not always easy, nevertheless, Scripture gives me all that is needed to be obedient to the call.  In the pages of the Bibles are the stories of real people who have proceeded me in this mission.  From every page of the Bible, I learn practical information for today’s problems.
  • In John 14:26, Jesus tells the disciples that the Holy Spirit will remind them of everything He has taught them.  It is important that I pray for understanding as I read the word of God.  God is faithful, I might not get the meaning right away, but I have learned to wait expectedly, and it time God will lead me to His answers.
  • People spend tons of money for an “experience.”  I have learned that sincere prayer combined with meeting with God heart to heart through Bible study is second to none when it comes experiencing the personal relationship with the Savior.  If you are reading this, I challenge you to study the Bible day after day for about three weeks and see if you don’t experience what I have said.  God has given His word as a wonderful guide for living.  Pray for the willingness to consistently study and apply His word.
  • There are many techniques for memorizing scripture.  I have found that when one technique doesn’t work with a particular verse, then I switch to another technique.  Perhaps the biggest help that I have recieved has been to ask specific people and groups of people to pray for my “willingness to be willing.”
